Healthier environment. Better life.

Every Contribution Counts.

No politics.
No marketing.

We don't talk about environmental protection because we want to position ourselves politically or sell more: our products and services don't come with colorful seals of approval, nor do they come with wonky calculated climate promises. Our drive to pay attention to the environment and sustainability stems from our love of nature; and because we want to help preserve our beautiful spaceship Earth wherever possible.

Our fundamental principles

  • Save paper & toner
Only essential documents are printed out. Otherwise, we work completely digitally. Even scribbling and taking notes usually only takes place on paper tablets.

  • No printed advertising
We do not print flyers, brochures or posters. We also do not send out direct mail. Printed business cards are just a backup. We prefer to exchange contact details via NFC, AirDrop or email.

  • Energy-efficient equipment
We pay very close attention to energy efficiency when purchasing devices. Devices that are not required are switched off. All work computers have very energy-efficient Apple Silicon chipsets.

  • Less consumption for lighting
Our entire lighting is optimized via Smarthome & sensors and switched off when there is sufficient light or the room is empty. We completely dispense with permanent lighting (e.g. for company signs). We use energy-efficient LED lights.

  • Electric business trips
We love e-mobility and use electric driving for required business trips. In the vast majority of cases, charging takes place at our own PV system. Additionally, the most economical drive is the one you don't make.

  • No distinct office building
Geographically highly dispersed clientele prefers it remote anyway. Our business premises are minimally integrated into a residential building. Freelancers work from home. This saves energy and the need for transportation.

Driven by renewable energy

Since 2020, our electricity requirements have been covered by our own high-performance photovoltaic system and energy storage system. Surplus energy, roughly equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of a single-family home, is also fed into the public grid. The system also keeps us self-sufficient even during grid outages, as we work with our locally generated electricity. Even at night thanks to energy storage systems.

Hosting: with 100 % Hydropower

CBACK has always attached great importance to environmentally friendly hosting. For example, from 2011 to 2022, our servers were located in the datadock data center in Strasbourg, which was considered "Europe's greenest data center" at the time. Since summer 2022, we have moved our servers to Hetzner to further improve our eco-balance. Hetzner supplies its German data center with 100% CO2 free electricity from hydropower.

Energy saving starts with the software

As a manufacturer of web software that is used on hundreds of servers worldwide, the thought of energy consumption also extends beyond the boundaries of our own infrastructure. We are convinced that the approach to saving energy should start with the software itself. An efficient system that works with fewer resources helps to minimize the energy requirements of a server on which the software is running. In addition, high-performance software makes it possible to keep the required infrastructure minimal for a longer time.

When developing our products, for example the CF4, we therefore do not follow the trend of using bloated libraries that require a large amount of system resources for things that ultimately remain unused. We prefer to invest more time in customized development in order to be rewarded with significantly optimized and more powerful software. Our users often confirm the high speed of our products. And some large communities have already been able to reduce their server capacities after switching to our software. Ultimately, this not only saves energy, but also keeps costs down.

Because we love the forest.

We often have supported, including privately, various forest conservation projects. For example #TeamTrees or the NABU. We also think the forest project by Wohllebens Forest Academy, created by a famous German forest ranger, which has received an award from the United Nations, is particularly worth mentioning. Since 2024, we have adopted over 20 m2 of untouched beech forest in the Eifel region, so it can be protected from deforestation.

We also have two 80 to 100-year-old beech trees on our own property, which we do everything we can to preserve and maintain them. Squirrels are very active there, while nesting boxes also provide a protected place for blue tits in particular to nest during the breeding season.

Local activities

Even small things can make a difference in your home community.
Bee-friendly
Our front garden is planted in a bee-friendly way. There is also a well-frequented insect hotel on the property.
Tree protection statute
When a municipal tree protection statute was repeatedly delayed, we discovered that the local council knew nothing about it and kept asking various authorities about the status for almost 2 years. The statute has since come into force.
University of Zweibrücken
Since 2006, we have supported Dr.-Ing. Hubert Zitt every year on a voluntary basis with media production and on site at his Christmas Lecture . We have supported children's university lectures and open university days several times with photography services and costumes. At an electric car address at the university, CBACK owner Christian Knerr was one of the volunteer speakers. We believe that education is an important asset and should be supported wherever possible.
501st Legion
From 2006 to 2012, Christian Knerr was very active in the German Garrison, a German offshoot of the international Star Wars® costume club 501st Legion . There were many volunteer appearances in movie costumes, e.g. in children's hospitals or cancer wards.
