CBACK Forum v4.14 released

Ready for PHP 8.5 and featuring completely revamped language packs: Version 4.14 focuses entirely on under-the-hood optimizations, and adds formal German as an additional, official language pack.

CBACK Forum gets an update to version 4.14 and is now available with every license purchase. Existing customers with an active service package receive the new version free of charge via the client panel. Expired service packages can also be easily renewed there. Developers will find the changelogs for template files in the CBACK Community as usual, so that their own template packages can be updated to the new version more easily.

Focus on Language Packs

With the previous update, the focus was more clearly on the visuals. For example, our completely new profile design and the option to use profile banners were introduced. In this version, it was finally the language packs' turn: First, the default language (German) was completely revised and proofread: phrasings were improved, explanatory texts were adjusted, terminology was standardized, and overlooked errors were corrected. Based on this revision, the English language pack was then completely re-translated. Not just literally translated, but also better formulated taking linguistic nuances into account. As a result, the English translation now offers significantly higher quality and feels more cohesive again, as various translators occasionally used slightly different styles over the course of previous updates. In addition, we have added a brand-new language pack: Formal German. Previously only available as a community language pack, it is now officially supported and maintained by us.

Improvements in Many Areas

Apart from completely renewed language packs, no noteworthy new features were implemented in this version, but many existing things were improved instead. There were not only code optimizations "under the hood," but also small tweaks to the user experience. For example, it is now possible that language and template packs that have already been extracted and made available via FTP or in the file system can now also be installed directly via the ACP. Previously, installing such packs was only possible with a finished installation package. This will make things easier for template or language file developers in the future: Just like with plugins, new packs in the file system are now detected directly and—just like with finished package files—are also offered for installation. Manual installation is then no longer necessary. This makes creating custom templates based on a duplicated folder and an adapted package_info file much more convenient.

PHP 8.5 Support

With this update, CF4 now officially supports PHP 8.5 as well. Bugs that occurred under this version have been fixed. The CAPTCHA system has also been adapted to changed requirements regarding GDLib / TrueType support of PHP 8.5 to ensure that graphics are reliably generated again on any system configuration.
